Honesty

How do you measure up when it comes to honesty? Are you the type of person who goes to great lengths to make sure the truth is known? Or are you the type of person that cuts corners whenever possible? Do you "lay it all out" for each customer or do you just answer if they ask the right question?

It's so hard to know sometimes what is being a "wise business person" and what is lying. How do we even go about measuring honesty? Do we compare ourselves to the guy (or gal) next to us. If we're better than them, then we must be okay, right?

I don't think that's how God looks at it. (In fact, I know it's not!) Our measure is to be Jesus. He lived on this earth without ever lying. He was honest in every regard. The Bible tells us that He was a carpenter (Mark 6:3), so we know that He was honest even when it came to business.

So, how do we make sure that we are honest as well as "business savvy"? Can a person be both? I believe so. The first step is to step back and take a look into our hearts. Do we truly desire to be honest? Ask God to open the eyes of your heart to be able to see any areas where you may not be as honest as you would like to think. He is faithful and will help work out these "kinks" in our lives.

I challenge you to take a moment and pray about this. Look at your heart - you may be surprised what you see.

"He will keep you strong to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful." 1 Corinthians 1: 8 & 9 (NIV)
